Local Learning is working with the Perkins Center in 2025! The Perkins Center is currently accepting applications for its World Music in the Schools (WMIS) program, which will bring global music and dance residencies to middle and high schools during the Spring 2025 semester.
The WMIS program offers your students the chance to:
- Engage with the rich music and dance traditions from around the world
- Collaborate with skilled teaching artists who mentor students and create artistic projects that align with your curriculum
- Participate in unique, hands-on learning experiences that culminate in the creation and performance of world music
This program is offered at no cost to 6-12 schools in South Jersey, and includes the following benefits:
- A global perspective on music and culture
- Professional development opportunities for teachers
- A stipend for participating teachers
- A two-day seminar for teachers in January 2025
- Classroom visits from world-class artists in the spring semester
The program is open to middle and high-school music, band, orchestra, and performing arts teachers. Teachers who participate will need to attend the seminar and work with the visiting artists to schedule and facilitate the residency.
